Privacy and terms
Serve is a game for two friends. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who sees it, and how to get it deleted.
Who we are
Serve is run by [names or company name] ("we"). We decide how your data is used. If you have any question, or want to use any of your rights below, email [contact email].
What we collect
If you join the waitlist
- Your first name and email address.
- Your rival's first name and email address, if you give them.
- The country you live in, how you'd like to play (head to head or doubles) and the prize you picked.
- When you confirmed you're 18 or older and gave your consent, and whether you'd like occasional updates.
- Which ad or link brought you to us, and the date you joined.
If you play
- Your email address, to sign you in.
- The name and daily goals you set (protein, steps, workout minutes, your own habit).
- What you log: meal photos, meal names, calories, protein, the items we counted, steps, workouts, and your weekend and light days. Photos are shrunk on your phone before they're sent, which also removes the location and camera details phones store in them.
- Your prize picks and your race with your rival.
- When you confirmed you're 18 or older and gave your consent below.
What you eat and how you move can say something about your health, so the law treats it as health data. We only use it if you give your explicit consent when you sign up, and only to run the game.
Why we use it
- Waitlist: to tell you when you can start. We use your email only for this.
- Your rival's name and email: to send them one invitation from you, when you can both start. We don't email them for anything else, and if they don't join within 30 days of that invitation, we delete their name and email.
- Playing: to run your race. That means saving your logs, scoring your week against your rival, and counting your meals when you ask us to.
We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the services below that run the game.
Who can see it
- Your rival sees your name, your goals, what's on each of your days (meal photos, meal names, calories, protein and the items counted, steps and workouts), your scores and your prize picks. Only take photos you're happy for them to see.
- Nobody else who uses Serve can see your race.
- The services that run the game process your data for us, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service:
- Supabase: our database, photo storage and sign-in (data stored in Frankfurt, Germany).
- Netlify: hosts the website.
- Anthropic: its AI counts a meal when you tap "Count my calories". It receives only the photo, description and amounts you gave for that meal, not your name or email. Anthropic is in the USA; the transfer is covered by the EU's standard contractual clauses.
- [Email provider]: sends sign-in links and invitations.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist: until you start playing, or at most 12 months.
- Your rival's name and email: 30 days after we invite them if they don't join, or when the waitlist closes if we never invited them.
- Your game data: while you have an account. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will, within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct, delete or send you a copy of your data, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent means we delete your game data and you stop playing. Email [contact email] and we'll do it within 30 days.
If you think we've handled your data wrongly, you can complain to Datatilsynet in Denmark (datatilsynet.dk), the ICO in the UK (ico.org.uk), or the data protection authority where you live.
Using Serve
- You must be 18 or older.
- Serve is a game, not medical advice. Calorie counts are estimates. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or have ever had an eating disorder, talk to your doctor before changing how you eat.
- The rules never reward eating too little: a day under the zone scores nothing. If the game ever makes food feel stressful, stop and talk to someone.
- Prizes are between you and your rival. We don't hold money or enforce them.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before the change applies.
